Advocacy: Reducing Kitchen Waste

The Issue

Kitchen waste is a growing concern in many Filipino homes. Food often gets thrown away due to overbuying, improper storage, and lack of planning.

Causes

  • Overbuying groceries without a plan
  • Improper food storage
  • Cooking more than what is needed
  • Not using leftovers creatively

Effects

  • More waste ending up in landfills
  • Higher household expenses
  • Harm to the environment
  • Wasted time, effort, and resources

Steps Toward Change

  • Educate families about proper food storage and planning.
  • Create simple meal plans based on what’s already at home.
  • Use leftovers in creative recipes instead of throwing them away.
  • Compost organic waste when possible.
  • Support and practice sustainable habits in the kitchen.

Closing Thought:

Small habits in the kitchen can create a big positive impact — for our homes, our budget, and the environment.
